St Andrews Market – St Andrews, Victoria, 3761

Smart Cleaning Solutions CEO Nicholas Pastras is writing a series of articles previewing some of the most interesting aspects and places to visit in Melbourne, and in this instalment he is featuring what is arguably the most interesting and eclectic craft market in Melbourne, the St Andrews market.

St Andrews is a suburban town 36 km north-east of Melbourne, situated in the foothills of the Yarra Ranges in the Shire of Nillumbik, which it is well known for it’s long running, eclectic community market that runs every Saturday between 8am – 2pm except on days of “Total Fire Ban”.

The St Andrews market is not your everyday craft market. Set under gumtrees on a rambling, sloping site, it’s market trails wind through natural goat trails, giving it a rural, arty, bohemian feel. The atmosphere of the market is earthy and unique, it has a lovely nostalgic seventies like hippie feel, and one of the markets highlights is a Chai tent where buskers and drum circles spontaneously form and people sit on cushions in the shade to chat with friends or just relax and look down the hill at the market stalls and the interesting people that run and frequent them.

Wandering through the rambling goat tracks you will find a wide variety of stalls; bric- a- brac, local and imported crafts,  Organic Fruit and Veggies, Free range eggs,  Handmade Soaps and Skin Care products, Jewellery, Art, Pottery, second hand books, CD’s, massage stalls, second hand clothes and a variety of delicious foods including cakes, curries, Falaffels, plus some very tasty Vegetarian and Gluten free dishes, There’s even Pony Rides for the kids

Half the fun of visiting this alternative lifestyle and craft market is drive out to St Andrews which winds through the hills of the Yarra Valley.
